Terraria
I bought this a while ago poked at it a bit and thought "Okay, this could be fun once you've made a few things and dug deep enough." but never really gave it the time to get anywhere. Now that I'm between jobs I have been able to give it the attention it deserves. I now have a gold pick axe, and a high dive platform that starts at the top of the sky and ends in a pool on top of my upside-down house. I seemed to have spent most of my time travelling either up or down to get home or to where my most recent excavation is. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to spend more time digging for Fun, and less time hauling my loot back up the (fantastically disorganised) mine shafts, caves, and tunnels?

Re: Terraria
I haven't played in at least 2 major patches, but had fun when I did. Here are 2 screenies of my character/house

Re: Terraria
I love Terraria. The recent v1.1 update added an absolute crap-ton of stuff, too. There's a new boss in the underworld that - if you defeat - changes the world into 'hard-mode' (aka kick-you-in-the-balls-hard-mode). This brings with it lots of new enemies spawning everywhere, new ores to mine, new biomes, corruption spreading differently and more aggressively, new items, new bosses, etc. Damn it's hard though. (I assume it wouldn't be so bad in multiplayer.)
It certainly changes things... I'm now mining using a drill rather than a pickaxe, using a laser rifle, and flying around on freaking angel-wings.
Andrew: Sounds like you need a Magic Mirror to teleport home with. It's still a pain to then get back to wherever you were, though.
David: That's a nice house. Everyone seems to make nice houses but me; I go for as simple and utilitarian as possible.

Re: Terraria
I found 2 mirrors not long after that post. I have also braved the harpies to build a dirt road from my "Stairway to Heaven" to the nearest sky island. I have yet to get a key to unlock the treasure chest there, but I did steal all the copper bricks and silver brick walls that it was housed in.

I think you can only get gold keys from the dungeon - and you'll need to beat Skeletron to get in there...
